AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER PROGRAM

Get Weird’s Amateur Photographer Program is a portfolio-building and learning opportunity for emerging photographers who want experience shooting live queer nightlife events. This is not paid or press work. Our priority is always performer comfort, audience safety, and the overall event experience. Due to the amount of interest this program has received we will only have a limited number of photographers approved per event.

HOW WE DECIDE

  • Limited photographer spots per event (based on event size)

  • Rotation system to keep access fair

  • Priority given to photographers who haven’t shot recently

  • Space reserved for new or first-time photographers

  • Reliability, professionalism, and consent-first behaviour matter

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

  • Apply or register interest to join our amateur photographer pool by messaging our socials @cherrybombperth or email contact@getweird.com.au

  • Approved photographers are added to a private group

  • Event call-outs are posted with available spots

  • Photographers can express interest within a set window

  • Selections are rotated — not first-in, first-served alone

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Portfolio and self-promotion use is allowed

  • Performers and patrons must always be respected

  • Consent can be withdrawn at any time

  • No stage or backstage access

  • No commercial use or sale of images

  • Ask our crew if you’re unsure — questions are encouraged

⚠️ ACCESS & EXPECTATIONS ⚠️

As a photographer at any Get Weird event, you are expected to operate respectfully, professionally, and with a consent-first mindset. Your access is granted to support the event and your portfolio development, while prioritising the enjoyment, safety, and comfort of performers and patrons.

Access & Restricted Areas

  • No backstage access. Backstage areas are strictly for performers and authorised crew only — no exceptions. A cloak room is available next to the door person for storing gear if needed.

  • No stage access. Photographers are not permitted on performance stages for safety and production reasons.

Consent & Performer Boundaries

  • You must not photograph performers who have fully stripped naked or are performing in nipple tassels unless you have explicit written consent from the performer.

  • If a performer, patron, or crew member asks you not to photograph or not to post an image, that request must be respected immediately.

Shooting Times & Coverage

  • Photography inside the venue must stop by 12:00 AM. No shooting is permitted after midnight.

  • You may take photos throughout the venue before 10:00 PM, provided all guidelines are followed.

  • You may photograph the amateur competition and feature shows

Flash & Shooting Behaviour

  • Minimal to no flash during performances. Flash can disrupt performers and patrons and should be avoided during live acts.

  • Do not block patrons’ views. Be aware of sightlines at all times and reposition yourself rather than obstructing the audience.

Role & Expectations

  • This is not a paid role. Photographer access is provided on the understanding that you are participating as a volunteer to build your portfolio.

  • Professional conduct, awareness, and respect for boundaries are required at all times.

⛔️ ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY ⛔️

By entering and photographing at any Get Weird event, you agree to follow this Photography Policy, all venue conditions of entry, and all directions from event staff and security.

Get Weird has ZERO TOLERANCE for harmful, anti-social, or non-consensual behaviour toward performers, patrons, staff, or crew. This includes harassment, discrimination, violence, sexual misconduct, abuse, misgendering, racism, transphobia, stalking, bullying, theft, property damage, and any other non-consensual behaviour.

  • Do not touch anyone without consent. If someone asks you to stop, you must stop immediately.

  • Respect personal space and consent-first photography at all times.

  • Follow all venue safety instructions and crew directions.

  • Bags and equipment may be searched in line with venue policy.

Violations will result in immediate removal, loss of future photography access, confiscation of unauthorised equipment, and/or additional venue-specific consequences.

If you’re unsure about what’s permitted, ask a crew member or contact us via our socials or email.
